The big reveal
Two new albums on the way: "The Georgian Style" Feb. 25, "Exposed Erratics" Apr. 2
At last I can divulge fully what I’ve been up to for much of the past year—rather than, say, Substacking with regularity.
Since last February, both on my own in my Manhattan home studio and with the expert assistance of Tom Beaujour at Nuthouse Recording in Union City, N.J., I’ve been working on not one but two albums. I regard them as companion pieces because the first helped the second be born and vice versa, but they’re significantly different from each other. In the coming months, both will be released on my Bandcamp page and all the usual evil streaming services.
Leading off is The Georgian Style, a heartfelt tribute to one of my bedrock musical influences, George Harrison. Thirteen of my favorite Harrisongs, many of them deep cuts, get the full Mac reinventive treatment. The Georgian Style comes out February 25, which would have been George’s 82nd birthday, and all proceeds from album sales will go to the Material World Charitable Foundation, an organization that he founded in 1973.
Once I’ve buttered you up with George tunes, I’ll proceed to punch you in the gut with Exposed Erratics, which contains 12 of my own songs, some new, many old. This album took more time to complete than The Georgian Style; one could justifiably argue that it’s been decades in the making. It also involved more people—there are clarinets! there are string quartets! I think it’s my best work so far, but don’t recording artists always say that about their latest? You can decide for yourself when Exposed Erratics gets unveiled on April 2, my 53rd birthday (I sense a motif here).
In the interest of maintaining multi-platform synergy, detailed track-by-track liner notes for both albums will be available at this page, should you be so inclined. And I’ll be pre-releasing “emphasis tracks” on my YouTube channel a few weeks before the respective albums come out. The Georgian Style will be represented by “Sour Milk Sea,” while “Armored Ignition” will introduce Exposed Erratics to the general public.
Musically speaking, for me last year was the year of vault consolidation. This year, the catalog expands, and I’m very excited about the next chapters.
Can’t wait to hear the finished products and how good you studio geniuses have made me sound in the mix.
